Highlights from AgrifoodTEF's Press Conference: Highlighting Our Capabilities

On July 12th, 2023, agrifoodTEF conducted a press conference at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in Austria to publicly unveil its initiatives and capabilities. Prominent government figures, including as State Secretary for Digitalisation Florian Tursky and Federal Minister Norbert Totschnig, were present at the occasion, along with executives from Josephinum Research and other consortium members. The attendees of this event revealed the objectives of the agrifoodTEF project and saw a demonstration of one of its flagship applications, an AI-based precision farming system intended to maximise the application of pesticides.

Using real-time data analysis and sophisticated machine learning models, this highlighted application helps farmers reduce chemical consumption and minimise environmental impacts by predicting insect activity, identifying pest hotspots, and allowing farmers to apply pesticides only where necessary. In order to address issues about resource efficiency and biodiversity, as well as to connect agriculture with the EU's sustainability goals, such solutions are essential.

"A big thank you to Josephinum Research, the Innovation Farm, and all involved partners, who show a huge commitment here," Minister Totschnig said in response to the work that Josephinum Research and its partners had done to advance digitalisation in agriculture. AI has the ability to revolutionise agriculture, according to State Secretary Tursky, by increasing productivity, cutting expenses, and tackling new issues like pest control, drought mitigation, and the persistent labour shortage.

Towards the Future: A Joint Vision for Sustainable Food Systems

Agrifood TEF is a consortium that spans Europe, and it functions via a network of nine nodes, each of which is a significant agricultural hub in the area. The collaboration offers a collaborative testing ecosystem spanning multiple specialities, such as precision agriculture, livestock management, and smart food production, by utilising the knowledge of its different partners. Josephinum Research, a well-known organisation recognised for its pioneering work in agricultural innovation, oversees one of its main nodes, which is situated in Austria. The University of Applied Sciences FH Wiener Neustadt and Raumberg Gumpenstein Research & Development are two more participants in the Austrian node.

agrifood TEF is positioned to have a significant impact on how AI is used in the agrifood industry going forward thanks to its extensive partner network and state-of-the-art research facilities. By working together, the consortium hopes to close the gap that exists between invention and practical implementation, guaranteeing that robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are not only technically sound but also environmentally and socially responsible.
