Bridging Adoption Gaps: Assessing Mobile Robots as Autonomous Machines for Agriculture in France

date_range 13 June 2025 09:00 - 10:00

language English

This session is the first in the “Bridging the Gap in Technology Adoption in Agriculture” webinar series.

Purpose & Scope

It focuses on exploring the role of mobile robots as autonomous machines in French agriculture, addressing the practical challenges and opportunities in adopting robotic technologies. The session builds upon discussions from earlier training webinars in 2025 and dives deeper into the real-world assessment of autonomous robotics in farming.

The webinar aims to support digital innovation hubs (EDIHs), technology providers, and stakeholders in understanding how mobile agricultural robots are tested and deployed in real-life farming scenarios. It highlights the services offered by agrifoodTEF in France, with practical insights from lab and field testing across the viticulture and arable farming sectors. The session also outlines key safety and performance standards required for successful deployment and provides opportunities for collaboration.

Learning objectives

Participants will understand how agrifoodTEF supports testing of robotics and AI in agriculture, how mobile robots are evaluated in labs and fields, and what standards and collaboration opportunities exist for deploying agri-robotics.

Learning outcomes

During the training webinar, the participants will:

  • Gain an understanding of the agrifoodTEF initiative and its role in supporting the testing and experimentation of robotics and artificial intelligence technologies in agriculture.
  • Learn how robot mobility and perception are assessed in controlled environments and understand the methodologies used.
  • Discover the key testing infrastructures available in France, including laboratory and field sites dedicated to evaluating autonomous robots in viticulture and arable farming.
  • Understand the safety and performance benchmarks necessary for autonomous machines operating in agricultural contexts.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration and support through AgrifoodTEF in the development and deployment of agri-robotics.
