Discover how the Evaluation of Ethical, Legal, and Social Aspects (ELSA Scan) service supports responsible AI and IoT development in agriculture.

Purpose & Scope

This webinar introduces the ‘Evaluation of Ethical, Legal, and Social Aspects (ELSA Scan) service’, developed within agrifoodTEF. AI and data-driven technologies hold great promise for agriculture, but they also raise questions about transparency, bias, data privacy, safety, and societal impact.

The ELSA Scan helps developers address these issues early in the design process through a structured evaluation based on surveys and interviews. Participants will learn how the service identifies key ELSA aspects and provides high-level recommendations that improve ethical technologies, ensure legal compliance, and increase societal acceptance.

The session will also highlight concrete outcomes where ELSA evaluation can contribute to responsible AI innovation in the agri-food sector.

Learning objectives

  • Understand what the ELSA Scan service is and how it works.
  • Recognise why ethical, legal, and social aspects are critical for AI and IoT development in agriculture.
  • Explore how early evaluation of ELSA aspects saves time, reduces risks, and supports responsible innovation.
  • Emphasise promising outcomes connected to the ELSA Scan supported AI adoption.

More details on the agenda will be shared soon.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the webinar, participants will:

  • Be able to explain the added value of ELSA evaluation in agri-food technology projects.
  • Know the practical steps involved in the ELSA Scan (survey + interview, identification of issues, recommendations).
  • Recognise how the service can strengthen compliance with data and AI regulations, while enhancing trust and sustainability.
  • See how EDIHs can guide businesses and public actors to benefit from ELSA services.

Who should attend?

European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs), AI and IoT developers in agriculture, agri-tech start-ups, digital service providers, food and farming companies, and public authorities engaged in responsible technology adoption.
