Data interoperability in the agrifood sector hinders innovation and development due to the need for many custom solutions to share data. This service helps agricultural organisations improve how they handle and share data across the entire food value chain. By implementing standardised reference data models like rmAgro (https://rmagro.org), we help to optimise your data flows and make your information systems work better together. Our team at Wageningen Research provides expert guidance in data modelling and implements reference models that align with industry standards and tests the reference models against various use cases. This promotes more efficient data sharing between different systems and organisations, reducing data integration challenges and improving operational efficiency. The service is particularly valuable for organisations looking to modernise their data infrastructure or needing to share data more effectively with partners in the agri-food sector. This service provides an assessment of interoperability for AI-driven solutions within the agri-food sector. The service facilitates conformance testing and verification of whether the related IT systems comply with relevant standards, guidelines, data space regulations, and other interoperability requirements. By evaluating the IT systems against established reference data models and frameworks like rmAgro (https://rmagro.org), the service ensures that it meets the necessary criteria for effective data sharing and integration. Wageningen Research leverages its expertise to evaluate the overall AI solution on its quality, performance, and how well it aligns with industry standards, offering insights and recommendations for improvement. This service supports organisations in ensuring their solutions are interoperable, compliant, and ready for seamless integration within the agri-food value chain.

The Benchmarking & Testing Suite for Edge Hardware Systems delivers a set of tests designed to evaluate the performance, reliability, and functionality of edge hardware and its components under various operational conditions.

The tests can be compared to specific industry standards or the performance of other solutions available on the market. Examples of tests offered as part of the service:

- Environmental tests: Assessing devices' resistance to extreme conditions, such as temperature, humidity, and vibrations.

- Signal tests: Evaluating devices using GNSS signal generators, testing their resilience to interference or false signals.

- Network tests: Evaluate device performance within a prototype 5G network infrastructure.

 - Functional tests: Assessing the capability of devices, such as remote PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) cameras, to perform operational tasks in field conditions.

- Integration tests: Examining the cooperation of edge devices with sensors, AI systems, and their responses to data input failures. - Accuracy tests: Measuring the precision of sensors and control systems. Test results can be compared to specified standards or the performance of competitive solutions, enabling customers to better understand their devices' capabilities.

As part of this service, we test and measure, among other things, mechanical, physical, acoustic, radio, electromagnetic compatibility and electrical parameters for the purpose of assessing the overall user safety of agricultural, horticultural, forestry and food machinery, equipment and components. Verification is based on the requirements of standards and directives declared by the manufacturer. We carry out an initial assessment based on the design documentation provided or/and on measurements taken on a prototype based on harmonised and non-harmonised standards with relevant EU and sectoral legislation. This is to ensure that for instance essential requirements coming from for instance New Legislative Framework directives and other EU law are fulfilled to better protect both consumers and professionals from unsafe products to be placed on the European internal market. One of the aims is to help manufacturers in legal placing agrifood products on EU single market and in CE-marking process. The results obtained can be used in the further process of product labelling, declaration of conformity to affix the CE mark to the device within the scope of EMC, LVD, RED, MD, MR on other NLF directives and regulations.

This service offers a comprehensive environmental analysis of the entire life cycle of your agri-food products, processes, or services, with a particular focus on innovative AI and robotic solutions. Our Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) gathers detailed data on natural resource extraction, environmental emissions, and fuel and energy consumption, specifically related to technologies tested within the agrifoodTEF project – such as AI-powered facilities, autonomous vehicles, and other robotic systems. This enables a robust assessment of environmental impacts across categories including climate change, ozone depletion, and resource scarcity. We also conduct a full carbon footprint analysis, focusing on greenhouse gas emissions and energy use directly linked to the operation and performance of these AI and robotic technologies. To support this process, we offer both general and technical assistance, guiding clients through each step of the LCA. The results help identify opportunities for resource optimisation and waste reduction, ultimately supporting informed business decisions based on tested, cutting-edge solutions. Additionally, our carbon footprint assessment facilitates voluntary emissions reporting and the development of decarbonisation strategies using secure, cloud-based data collection.
