AI in the food system: (how) can we ensure AI contributes to sustainability?
The ELSA lab "AI for Sustainable Food Systems" at Wageningen University & Research hosts a critical event on November 13, 2023, that centres on the moral implications of AI in the food industry. With the theme "How Can We Stop an Autonomous Robot from Making Decisions That Injure People or Animals?" this conference seeks to highlight the vital importance of early risk detection in AI applications in order to optimise benefits and reduce potential harm.
The event brings together a wide range of stakeholders, including creative software developers, hardware suppliers, researchers, policymakers, and supply chain partners. It takes place from 09:30 to 18:00 at Omnia (Building No. 105), HogeSteeg 2, Wageningen. Participants attend talks about the newest developments, potential applications, and concerns of artificial intelligence (AI) in food systems.
The event's educational seminars on the new AI Act, which give developers essential context for understanding the regulatory environment, is among its main attractions. In addition, attendees can see a demonstration of the ELSA Scan, a real-time tool for evaluating the ethical implications of AI applications.
To learn how humans can ethically use AI to develop sustainable food systems that put technology advancement and ethical concerns first, we highly recommend attending this event.
AgrifoodTEF at the Event
Agrifood TEF’s involvement is central to this event, bringing its expertise in testing and experimentation to ensure that AI systems used in agrifood settings are not only innovative but also meet the highest standards of safety and ethics. By working closely with industry partners and research institutions, Agrifood TEF aims to bridge the gap between cutting-edge AI technology and practical, trustworthy applications. Their contributions will help shape a future where AI-driven solutions in food production are not only efficient but also transparent, accountable, and aligned with societal values.
