Pig research barn

The pig research barn at Raumberg-Gumpenstein is Austria's only fattening barn and one of the few facilities in Europe capable of measuring gaseous emissions, dust, and odours, allowing for the calculation of emission factors for various environmental issues.

Description

The barn contains three identical compartments that can be customised for experimental setups. The barn supports video monitoring, feeding trials, and comprehensive animal welfare and environmental impact analysis.

What could be offered through this facility?

The pig research barn enables comprehensive behaviour and welfare studies through continuous video monitoring, capturing detailed data on feeding, resting, and social interactions. Additionally, precise measurements of gaseous emissions (e.g., NH3, CO2, CH4) provide essential reference data on environmental impacts, supporting research to improve pig welfare and reduce emissions.
