The "ELSA Scan: Supporting Responsible AI and IoT Development in Agriculture" training webinar introduces the ‘Evaluation of Ethical, Legal, and Social Aspects (ELSA Scan) service’, developed within agrifoodTEF. AI and data-driven technologies hold great promise for agriculture, but they also raise questions about transparency, bias, data privacy, safety, and societal impact. The ELSA Scan helps developers address these issues early in the design process through a structured evaluation based on surveys and interviews. Participants will learn how the service identifies key ELSA aspects and provides high-level recommendations that improve ethical technologies, ensure legal compliance, and increase societal acceptance. The provided materials are the slides presented during the event.

This report serves as the second annual update on the progress made in identifying and cataloging simulation and remotisation tools utilised by project partners. It introduces the concepts and tools that are evaluated and used within AgrifoodTEF. These tools are essential for creating, visualising, and manipulating virtual models of agrifood systems, as well as for enabling remote control and monitoring of agricultural processes. This report is the first annual report of the agrifoodTEF project, and it aims to showcase the outcomes of the work done on the simulation and remotisation tools during the first year of the project. The report is part of deliverable 2.4, which corresponds to task 2.3 of the project. The report intends to provide a comprehensive overview of the simulation and remotisation tools of the agrifoodTEF project, as well as to demonstrate their value and potential for enhancing the efficiency, sustainability, and resilience of the agrifood sector. This will mainly be done by collecting information and statistics from the infrastructure that will be provided by task 2.1. The report will be updated and extended in the following years, as the project progresses, and new results are obtained.

The AgrifoodTEF project offers Ethical, Legal, and Social Aspects (ELSA) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) services in order to support the transition from innovative AI solutions to successful market applications in the agri-food sector. This report explores the current ELSA research and demonstrates how LCA may complement ELSA to promote the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies. It explores the ELSA and LCA services under the AgrifoodTEF service catalogue and outlines the purpose and impact of these services. ELSA services help address ethical, legal, and social challenges while ensuring compliance with regulations and fostering human-centred design. LCA services evaluate and optimise the environmental impact of technologies, supporting sustainability goals. Together, these services have the potential to enable a comprehensive approach to responsible innovation by evaluating ethical, legal, and societal aspects as well as environmental considerations. The report also highlights the potential for developing more comprehensive ELSA services that consider ethical, legal and social aspects more in-depth and with quadruple helix stakeholder workshops to enhance collaboration and inclusivity.
