Overview
Agriculture is evolving — facing modern-day challenges like labor shortages, sustainability demands, and the need for more efficient resource use. Farm-ING, an Austrian agri-tech company, is tackling these challenges head-on with the help of AI, robotics, and the collaborative testing environment provided by AgriFoodTEF. Their Spot Sprayer technology is designed to drastically reduce pesticide usage while increasing productivity and crop care precision.
About the customer’s need
Farmers across Europe are confronted with a growing set of difficulties:
Labor Shortage: Finding skilled workers is increasingly difficult.
Sustainability Pressure: Consumers are demanding more organic and environmentally friendly products.
Manual Workload: High levels of manual labor are still required, especially in organic farming.
To address these needs, Farm-ING sought an intelligent, automated solution that could precisely differentiate between crops and weeds and apply treatment only where necessary.
About the service
The spot spraying test service precisely checks how well your spraying system works under real-world conditions. The innovative approach allows for immediate documentation of the spray distribution without altering the spraying process. After application, we capture the actual spread pattern and analyse this data to evaluate how effectively and accurately the liquid reaches the intended targets.

Impact
The testing of Farm-ING’s Spot Sprayer proved highly successful, achieving up to 90% reduction in pesticide use through precise, AI-driven targeting. With spot sizes as small as 35 mm and a goal of leaving zero residue on crops, the system promotes environmentally sound farming while enhancing consumer trust. Its user-friendly design reduces setup complexity, making it ideal even for small farms from 10 hectares upwards. After strong results in Austria, Farm-ING is now expanding into Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Belgium, with an expected export share of 80% in the near future.
